Now for the Alco RSC
One major issue found while the details were being placed on the RSC
The frame was not level, in fact it bent down each way to the ends from the center frame around the fuel tank casting.
To adjust the frame required the removal of all parts from the locomotive.
To test the work, I used the scale ruler to check the adjustments done with some of my machine tools.
With blocks and machinist vice I was able to straighten each end level with the center of the frame.
It was then a matter if rebuilding the locomotive. Some factory wires needed to be relocated and a new 9 pin socket was installed for the decoder.
While reassembling the locomotive I found that while the design was very neat for the pickup and transmission of power, solder joints were not clear of the walkway which required adjustment.
This is a look at the solder joint on the Fireman's side originally from the motor to the copper bus that runs from truck to truck to conduct the left rail power. The joint is outside the space provided for this connection and causes the walkway to be raised at that location. I resoldered each side of the power connections and found that the walkway set much flatter.
With the basic model repaired details were applied by Bon to the UP RSC 1281
